Residential Life

My lease for student housing just got extended for another six months. So I guess this means I will have to pretend to be twenty-two years old for a little while longer.

I was mixed on whether or not I wanted to move out and live somewhere else. I think it would've been nice to have a new experience and meet new people... in a place where I might have my own bathroom. But if I moved out then I wouldn't see strangers sleeping in my living room when I wake up, or hear boys playing Wii loudly in the middle of the night... and I wouldn't get accidentally high off the smell of pot wafting into my bedroom, from outside, at 3 in the morning. So I left it up to the housing guys to decide my fate. At least now I won't have to move all my crap which would've totally sucked.

Fortunately, I really like my roommates... and I've been watching a lot of old Felicity episodes (remember that show?) so I've been learning a lot about residential life. Next step, chop off all my hair like she did... yea right!

That's Amore

This weekend my friends and I went to a street festival called "Primo Italiano". We'd heard about it in class from one of our guest lecturers who talked to us about entertainers and performing artists. Liezel, is an actress who has been, in addition to other things, doing street skits during Primo for the last few years.

Primo's most popular skit is performed by Liezel and her partner Johnny (also an actor). The skit is appropriately called "Romeo and Juliet", and portrays a very stereotypical Italian couple... think- red lips, greasy hair, spray tans and yelling from the balcony. Can I just say, Italian faux accents over Australian real accents is interesting.

Anyway, this year they wanted Romeo and Juliet to finally get married and have an Italian wedding on the streets. Well, the real couple decided that they would use this opportunity to get married for real. Apparently that have been together forever, and have a kid and all that. So the couple got legally married in front of thousands of strangers, and of course their real family and friends.

The wedding was so sweet, and the reception and proposal scenes were hilarious! I wish I could post my own pics, but as you know my computer is currently at the hospital... diagnosis: eff'ed! So anyway, I stole this picture from the Internet so you can see what Liezel and Johnny look like.

Happy B-day Bro!

Dave- Just thinking of you and wishing you an awesome bday! Enjoy your last year as a teenager, because adulthood ain't all its cracked up to be! ...Do you even read my blog? Oh, well...

Get Well Soon...

So, I finally dropped my computer off at the hugest Apple store I've ever seen (see pic above). Of course, this was only after almost crying in front of the Genius Bar guy when he said "for liquid damage, sometimes its easier to just buy a new computer". What an expensive lesson to learn! Please get well soon...

Also, is it just me or does everyone get totally intimidated when they walk into Apple stores? I always feel like I'm not cool enough to be a Mac person, and that they will figure me out and determine that I'm just a wannabe. For example, before I walked in I had to put away my iPod because I didn't want anyone in the store to see that I still have generation one of the iPod nano. LOL, who am I?

Noooooooooo......

I just knocked my Coke over on my computer... I'm so upset I think I might cry!! I'm not freaking out anymore, and I think my heart is back to it's normal pace, but now I'm wallowing in my own self pity...

I did everything I could... I wiped the Coke off as soon as possible, I turned my computer upside down to try and get it out of the keys, I cleaned it multiple times with my iKlear wipes, and turned it off for awhile. But now my touch pad doesn't work... (EFFFF!)
Everything else seems to be working okay (for now), and luckily I have my wireless mouse, but I just tried to post a funny picture of a broken Mac to add to this blog, but I don't know how to "right-click" on my fancy-schmancy mouse. Uhhhh... this is exactly what I get for buying a computer that I didn't need and couldn't afford!! Steve Jobs why did you make me fall in love with you and now you've left me feeling alone, scared and heart broken?

True, I do have warranty, but does that cover Coke damage? Matt and Clay I blame you a little, you made me a turn into a Mac and now I can't live without it! Please help! Please work again! And please, oh please, don't be expensive!

Wine Country - Hunter Valley

This weekend Jackie, Ashleigh and I went out to the wine country of New South Wales- Hunter Valley. Because it is about two and a half hours outside of Sydney we went with a tour group of about 10 people. Our bus was to pick us up at 7am on Saturday morning so that part sucked, but luckily we got to sleep the whole way. And it was really nice to get out of the city for a few hours and get back to nature.
Our first tasting was at 10:30am... kinda strange to start drinking that early... and in total we visited four different wineries. We also had a tasting at the place we stopped to eat lunch... so it was a lot of wine. So much in fact that I couldn't even finish at the last place. A couple of the wineries also had cheese and olive tastings so that was helpful. Although I did make the mistake of trying a very VERY sharp cheese at one of the shops called "Smelly Cheese Shop"- and I don't think I will ever get that taste out of my mouth! Gross...

I'm the first to admit that I am not a wine connoisseur in the slightest, but I tried to use the skills I'd learned a couple years ago in the wine country of San Francisco (Sonoma Valley?) with my sis and cousin. It goes little something like this: swirl wine in glass, smell, take small taste, hold in mouth and swish it around to bring out flavors, swallow and say something pretentious like, "The legs on this Merlot are lovely, and the oaky taste, that lingers on the tongue, tells heaps about its age and distinction."

Needless to day, I bought a bottle from Tempus Two Winery. Its called Moscato which is a white wine that is slightly sparkling- so its like a sweeter version of a champagne. Delish!

My Room in 204D

I haven't yet show you guys any pics of my place, and since there's not much going on today to blog about, I figured I'd make your day and do just that. I'll just show you my room for now... the rest of the flat is pretty messy so I'll save that for another day.I have to swipe my student card four times before I can get to my room. Once to get into the building, again in the elevator to ride to level 2, again at my front door to get into flat 204, and finally at my bedroom door- 204D. So its very secure, the only problem is I am constantly nervous that I have forgotten or lost my card and will be locked out.Once you get inside its a pretty average student room, small (probably 10x20 ft) but basically all I do there is sleep, so can't complain too much. Lets take a closer look...My bed is a twin, or "single" as its called in Australia, which is weird because I haven't had a twin bed since forever! So I can't really move around too much when I'm sleeping or I will roll out of bed. On the plus side, my gigantic luggage does fit underneath, and I have some extra storage down there too. This is my "home office". I don't actually do much studying here though, because every time I try to I get easily distracted by the Internet or my flatmates. The back wall, behind the door, is my closet with mirrored doors and the left side has drawers and shelves. Please excuse the dirty clothes in the corner. The right side of the closet has my hung clothes and shoes. Perhaps I need to add a little color to my wardrobe...?And finally I have a small bookshelf where I basically keep everything else. Perhaps I went a little overboard, with my reading materials, when preparing for my trip here...

Luna Park and Ladies Lunch

This weekend was crazy busy... I had class Friday night, class again all day on Saturday, and a Sunday morning review session- sucks! But I had an amazing Sunday afternoon. After the review session, me and some friends from class went on a long drive around Sydney (in a convertible), then stopped at a cafe that was right by the water to have a long lunch and drink wine. The weather was perfect, and afterwards went to Luna Park, which is an amusement park on the North Shore.

We didn't actually ride any of the rides, but we walked around and I had some "fairy floss". Such a long hectic weekend... I was exhausting by the time I got home, but it was wonderful!
